Anyone that has fought the smoking bans for long has heard the anti-smoker rants using labels like “addict“,”puppet of big tobacco” all to demoralize and diminish the smoker to less then human status. Why do they resort to such practices.  The fact is that if you can demonize your opponent to less than human status it makes it easier to inflict publicly acceptable prejudices against them.

At least the Jim Crow laws tried to pretend there was some equity, “separate but equal”, not that anyone believed that but they produced just enough junk science to show that blacks were inferior. Hitler did the same with the Jews. Now we have the junk science of second, third and fourth hand smoke.   All in order to make it publicly pallitable to inflict prejudicial laws against those we don’t approve of.  I could spend a week challenging the legitimacy of the science and have. But this boils down to more of a rights issue especially the rights of the business owner.

Here is an example from a Topix forum.

Let the market decide???
What the hell are you talking about,
the chemical addicts in denial represent less than 20% of the population…so why is it 100% of bars were smoking before the bans started to DOMINATE most states???

By the way…the “market” is really the “people”…and the “people” have decided!

Using this train of thought, According to polls less then 10% of the population is gay or lesbian so why don’t we outlaw gay and lesbian bars? After all shouldn’t these businesses be forced to cater to the will of the majority? The gays can stil drink but they should have to do it at home. Want another example The vast majority of Americans are omnivorous, let’s ban those vegan restaurants I want a steak.

I know the anti’s will scream and stomp their feet saying no it’s a health issue, well everyone knows the risks of under or uncooked meat and fish yet you are still free to go to that Sushi bar, or to order steak tar tar. It was never about health! It is about a group of anti-smokers demanding everyone cater to them and will use any tactic to achieve that goal, including junk science.

Some people may think that I am taking this to an extreme and nothing is further from the truth. The truth is that the bans forbid any business cater to smokers. To make matters worse if you live in the city they make the smoker a target for every gangbanger on the street.

COLUMBUS, Ohio —

A man was taken to Grant Medical Center late Saturday night in critical condition with at least one gunshot wound.

Columbus medics were called to the 4400 block of Walford Street on a call that said a man was having difficulty breathing. Responders found that at least one bullet wound was to blame.

Police say that 42-year-old Alberto Chavez was outside smoking when he was shot.

This is not isolated there are countless deaths injuries and rapes directly attributed to the smoking bans.

The collectivist/progressives of the world would love nothing more to convince everyone that we are a democracy and that majority rules. The founding fathers fought vigorously against this Mob mentality and to protect both individual rights and property rights.

John Adams defined a constitutional republic as “a government of laws, and not of men.” Constitutional republics are a deliberate attempt to diminish the perceived threat of majoritarianism, thereby protecting dissenting individuals and minority groups from the “tyranny of the majority” by placing checks on the power of the majority of the population.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
